原油基本知识——How to dierentiate between lowsulfur and high-sulfur crude?

时间:2025-06-06

Low-sulfur and high-sulfur crude oil are categorized by sulfur

content, which refers to the weight percent of sulfur (either sulde

or elemental sulfur) contained in a crude oil. Sulfur impacts the

quality of a crude oil because it causes diculties in processing the

oil, such as corrosion of metals, and air pollution from the burning

of high-sulfur fuels. Generally, most crude oils contain a low level

of sulfur. Based sulfur content, crude oil can be classied as lowsulfur (“sweet”), medium-sulfur, and high-sulfur crude oils (the

latter two are often referred as “sour”), respectively containing less

than 0.5%, between 0.5% and 2.0%, and more than 2.0% of sulfur

by weight.
