Generally, intercontinental transportation of crude oil relies on 

marine tankers whose deadweight tonnage ranges from tens of 

thousands to hundreds of thousands of tons, while pipelines are 

usually used to transport oil on land. Rail and tank trucks are also 

used for short-distance transportation.
